Baptist Union Inter Faith Residential Gathering - King's Park Conference Centre 10-11 May 2010 (Posted 7/4/10)
From the feedback of our Inter Faith day in Leicester last October and a number of similar events, we were encouraged to read many positive comments and to note a strong hope among many of you that we would continue to organise other Inter Faith events in the future. However, one conspicuous and recurring observation was that the time spent together was simply not long enough. Our solution is to offer a much longer gathering with an overnight stay during which we will have plenty of time to hear from each other, to reflect on what we have learned from our guest speakers and in fellowship and joint worship.
Our Inter Faith gathering will be on 10 & 11 May, at the King’s Park Centre in Northampton, starting at 2.30pm and finishing with lunch the next day. We are delighted to welcome Canon Dr John Hall, the new Director of the St Philips Centre and Mat Wilson, a Mission Trainer at IMC with a particular teaching responsibility for Christian doctrine, Islam, leadership and development practice as our speakers. I have attached a copy of the draft programme (in both .xls and ,pdf formats) to give you some detail of the programme. You will see that the Inter faith programme is running in parallel with a similar event for our Evangelists Network and that there are a number of touch points where the 2 programmes come together. We feel that this will add considerable value to both groups and enhance the discussion opportunities in our free time.
Bookings are now open and the cost is £75 for a single en-suite room and all meals.

Assembly Seminar Details (posted 25/3/10)
Starting where you are, with your neighbours – Muslims and Christians building bridges in the community Baptist minister Andy Williams explains how he was provoked into loving his Muslim neighbours and became part of the unfolding inter-faith story of ‘building bridges in Burnley’. Sunday afternoon: 2.00 - 3.15 pm Young People's Hall, Salvation Army Organised by Joppa
Encountering Muslims One of the biggest challenges facing Christians today is that of being distinctive in a multifaith world. How can we turn this perceived challenge into an opportunity to give and receive? What does it mean to be Christian and evangelistic, whilst maintaining our Baptist principle of freedom of belief? In this seminar we look at how we can engage on many levels with Muslims within the UK, learning from the global experiences facing Baptists today. Hosted by Ian Bunce, Head of Mission, BUGB and Julie Aylward if Joppa Arranged by the Baptist Union of Great Britain

“Baptist Christians Present and Engaging in a Multi-faith World” in Leicester on 13 October 2009 (posted 11/8/09)
On Tuesday 13 October, the BUGB Mission Department will host a consultation day for pastors / leaders of churches in multi-faith areas to share stories, ideas and resources enabling churches to become distinctively Christian in a multi-faith community.
Our Speaker for the day will be the Revd Andy Williams, minister of Sion Baptist Church in Burnley. Andy’s experience of the disturbances in Burnley in 2001, caused him to ask searching questions about his practice of ministry in that context. He went on to be a founder member of Burnley’s inter-faith project, ‘Building Bridges in Burnley’ and now serves as a Director of the project. Andy will be telling the story of ‘Building Bridges in Burnley’ and his involvement in inter-faith work with Christians and Muslims.
Cost for the day is £20 including lunch.
Venue: Robert Hall Memorial Church, Leicester
To book please contact the Mission Department on 01235 517713 (email mission@baptist.org.uk). Please note that the closing date for bookings is Wednesday 30 September.

A Common Word Between Us and You (posted 1/2/09)
Last year a letter entitled “A Common Word Between Us and You” was written by 138 Muslim leaders and scholars that appealed for Christians and Muslims to cooperate in engendering peace and religious freedom.
The Baptist World Alliance has now issued a careful and thoughtful response to this significant letter, drawing on the insights of many in the Baptist family, and aware of the need for better understanding between Christians and Muslims. This response can be found by going to: www.bwanet.org/default.aspx?pid=979
